Home Alone Themed Dessert Tasting Menu Recap

Back in December I attempted to do a cooking related event every weekend. Forgetting that December contains Christmas, New Year's Eve and one of the busiest weeks at work I gladly threw myself into one of the most gastronomically challenging months I've had to date. At the end of the three weekend epicurean whirlwind I prepared one of my favorite events I've done to date, a Home Alone themed Christmas party. Laurel and I had one objective each. Laurel wanted to throw a Christmas party, I wanted to do a simple 3-course dessert tasting. Shazzam! Combine! And so we did. Laurel and her roommates (Ash, my sous-chef; Jody and Kelsey) hosted the party, and I created a 4 course menu for those interested.

The idea for this dessert tasting came the night before our November dinner. It started out as an idea to do a simple 3 course meal to keep things easy, and then turned in to a 4 course dessert based on Home Alone with each course made from ingredients found only in the movie. So with this new challenge, I set out to make a list of all the food items that show up in the film:
pizza
pepsi
milk
orange juice
champagne
gingerbread house
crunch gators
marshmallows
ice cream

christmas trees
wonder bread
mac and cheese
tic tacs

Sounds promising right?
Here's how it ended up.

"Keep the Change" Sundae - Course 1
Ginger Lemon chocolate sherbet, browned anise marshmallow, dulce de leche, cocoa nibs

"Keep the Change" Sundae - Course 2
Pine mint gelato, pine oil, olive oil powder

"Keep the Change" Sundae - Course 3
Brown butter ice cream, hickory candy shards, toast powder

Mimosa Mac n' Cheese - Course 4
Wonder bread pudding macaroni with orange and champagne cream and hicory candy bread crumbs

Not too bad eh?
